From mountain to jungle, from forest to plain,
The doughty explorer some glimpses may gain
Of these distant, elusive, mysterious cats –
Striped, spotted, or tawny (but not wearing hats).
But if he’s unlucky, they’ll eat him for lunch
And swallow him down with a burp and a crunch;
Or again, if he’s lucky, and gives it some welly,
We can all settle down and watch him on the telly.
But enough of this chap, whether early [evening] or late [lunch];
This page is here to help celebrate
This bewhiskered, befanged and befurriest crew!
Just stop now and think – Do they matter to you?
