Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, raising funds for Ward 5, the stroke ward at Airedale General Hospital
As you may know I suffered a stroke of the spine at the beginning of the summer which left me paralysed from the waist down. I am making a slow but good recovery with a lot of help and support from my wonderful family and friends.
Having spent nearly two months in hospital (2 weeks at LGI and 5 weeks on Ward 5, the stroke ward at Airedale), I have to say the care I received was amazing. But I noticed, particularly at Airedale that staff were over-stretched and some basic bathing equipment was badly in need of replacing. I am therefore going to attempt to swim a mile (64 lengths) on Friday 14 March to raise much needed funds to purchase at least one bath chair for Ward 5. Having previously swum several miles a week at Skipton, including a mile in 40 minutes the day before my stroke, a sponsored swim seemed like the obvious choice to raise some funds. However, the most I've managed since June is 26 lengths as my mobility is very limited and I still can't feel my legs properly yet - so this is going to be a real challenge!! My target is £500 but if we raise more, we could buy two chairs!! Maybe we could even buy the all-singing, all-dancing hydraulic bath chair for £4,000 that they really want. That would be fantastic! Please, please support me so we can in turn support the wonderful work of the nursing staff on Ward 5. Thank you!
