We offer support, advice and information to UK families affected by retinoblastoma

Story

You will by now have heard of the untimely death of my sister, Ffion Miles from a fast progressing degenerative brain condition.  She died, aged 45 on the 17th of January 2021 at home in Llandudno surrounded by her family.

When Ffion was a baby she was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma resulting in tumours in both eyes. She was treated in St Barts London which saved her life but left her with severely impaired vision. What little vision she had deteriorated over the years.

Retinoblastoma brings with it a predisposition to developing other cancers. She battled bone cancer as a teenager and soft tissue cancer six years ago.

That's enough of the bad stuff though. None of this ever held her back and may have given her an extra zest for a life that needed to be lived now and well.

She attended Aberystwyth University where she gained both a Law Degree and a Masters in International Politics. She decided that a career in the law was not for her and instead worked for many years as a BBC researcher and then for the Stroke Association.

She collected snow globes from her travels around the world - Beca and I counted them tonight and there is over a hundred, Australia, Nashville, Dubai, Vietnam, Canada, Hollywood and every European City break possible. She made 3 journeys on the Tenacious, a huge wooden tall ship adapted for accessibility so that all on board work their passage. She sailed around the Caribbean and from Tasmania to Australia where she then travelled on her own around Australia wher she snorkelled the barrier reef, climbed the mast and rode a camel past Uluru.

She loved (order to be determined) her friends, family,  music festivals, Choir, Jack Daniels, Everton, U2, Take That, Nirvana, Anne of Green Gables, Rugby and Harry Potter.

Ffion was for 10 years a board member of the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust and it is for this reason I ask that any donations be given, in her name, to this Charity.

(I can't get the suggested £30 to go away - it's not my doing and I'm certainly not suggesting a minimum donation)
