Fatma's page for Emriye Arslan

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My mum was diagnosed on the 10th April 2015 with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas and liver metastases and was given 6-9 months to live. She was 57 years old.
The effects of pancreatic cancer were immediate. Mum was so weak that she was unable to continue her normal household chores.
I was very sceptical but we emerged with many positive feelings, thinking about things we could do, rather than just accepting fate. We understood that the '6 months' prognosis was purely statistical. Mum smoked very little, had a healthy diet and was a keen walker. She loved socialising with friends.
Mum and I were very close, which made the inevitable parting more painful than I imagined, but I look back on that time with a mix of love, sadness and incredible pride at mum's positive attitude. One thing I would carry forward is that when you get 'terminal' diagnosis and people say 'there is nothing to be done' the quality of life in what time you have assumes massive importance, so 'palliative' care.
Thanks to my father, our family, friends and our objective setting mums' last few months with us was a meaningful one. Those last few months, though brief, were very special.
I would love more than anything to have mum back in our lives.. I miss her terribly.
Devastated by the battle she had faced, we passionately wanted to do something to help with research into pancreatic cancer.
I will be doing a skydive at my own expense and would appreciate donations to give hope to others in the future.
Thank you ,
Fatma
