Story
In November, David (dad), Jenny (mum), Drew, Alison, and Duncan (the kids), will be participating in the New York City marathon again. David has been in the wars this year with treatment for non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, shingles and a TIA all conspiring to stop him in his tracks. But he will not be defeated! He and Jenny will do a gentle jog and /or walk to the finish line. Your generous support will really help!
We are running to raise money for Breast Cancer UK
In early 2014, Jenny was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. She was given a very scary prognosis and plunged straight into 18 months of aggressive, cutting-edge treatment. Over three years on we are hugely thankful to the medical team that supported her through it. Without their pioneering spirit, and the medical advances they tapped into, things could have been very different.
Jenny is not alone. We all know countless wives, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. And whilst survival rates are improving, the treatment is brutal and leaves long-term side effects. And sadly too many of our loved ones are still dying from the disease.
As a family, we want to help reduce the number of women and men that suffer the trauma of a breast cancer diagnosis and its treatment.
Scientists think that exposure to certain chemicals found in everyday household goods is making us more vulnerable to breast cancer.
Breast Cancer UK funds scientific research into the links between breast cancer and exposure to these chemicals. The charity campaigns with others to get greater controls in place for chemicals known to be harmful. And Breast Cancer UK also helps raise public awareness about how to reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals.
Breast Cancer UK is currently raising £45K to fund a three-year PhD study. The study will investigate the effects on breast tissue of long-term exposure to a group of chemicals that are known to disrupt normal hormone activity. The money that we raise will go directly to fund the study.
Please consider supporting us. It will spur us on when the training gets tough and our legs start to tire! Thank you
David, Jenny, Drew, Alison, and Duncan
