Story
'The least donated items donated to our brothers and sisters are underwear (pants and socks). In 2020 we purchased nearly 3500 pairs. That does not even begin to address the need. Your donation offers real DIGNITY, one pair at a time.' - Todd Mackintosh
Bare Necessities was started in June 2020 by Todd Mackintosh to raise awareness of the lack of underwear available for the homeless and has so far donated over 9000 pairs of sock and pants to the homeless in the city. The fact of the matter is, people don’t want to address the topic of other people’s underwear. It’s not a comfortable topic but by supporting and making a donation tonight, you will be making a massive difference in so many peoples lives.
Todd grew up in Girton where his father was the village Rector of St Andrews Church and his mother used to volunteer at Winter Comfort in Cambridge. Todd said “while there are lots of wonderful and successful charitable initiatives to help the homeless on many levels, the supply and distribution of new underwear, sanitary and daily hygiene items are sadly overlooked. The fact of the matter is, people don’t want to address the topic of other people’s underwear. It’s not a comfortable topic. By supporting and making a donation tonight, you will be making a massive difference.”
Money raised through this event will go directly to Bare Necessities
in order to help the most vulnerable have access to clean underwear and sanitary products.
