Story
So it has been just over a year since Evie passed away – when we look back at the last 14 months, it has been a year with many different emotions. We miss Evie dearly but are also so grateful that we were able to give her so much love, fun and adventure in those 12 years. We have done and made many different things to remember Evie and this has really helped us to keep the many beautiful memories we have of her alive. We made some little wooden plaques and put them at the places she loved to go (see photos in gallery). We have planted a variety of bulbs and every special occasion we have added something new – we often visit the plaques and feel very peaceful. We have also created a little cutting garden at home in Evie’s memory – amongst flowers, it has 2 beautiful roses very aptly named – ‘Inspiration’ and ‘Simply the Best’.
The money we raised with Evie’s Just Giving Page, when she passed away, for the stables and her school have evolved into 2 wonderful projects - a fully accessible changing place at the stables and a sensory garden for the deafblind students at Evie’s school. It is heart-warming to know that the money raised will benefit so many other disabled children and adults and Evie’s memory will live on.
We have also had some wonderful help from a local charity – we feel very fortunate to have had this. This has been our motivation to help another charity, The Good Grief Project to raise money to enable other bereaved families to attend their Active Grief Weekends.
We will be walking the Yorkshire's Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) with other bereaved families - our challenge is to complete the 24 mile trek and 1585m (5200ft) of ascent in under 12 hours - a very long way!!
The money we raise will help bereaved families to attend one of The Good Grief Projects Active Grief Weekends. These retreats support bereaved parents and siblings who have experienced the loss of a child. The aim is to help them find new and creative ways of expressing their grief.
We hope you will donate generously to this very worthwhile cause – thank you for your support - For more info please visit https://thegoodgriefproject.co.uk/active/
