Story
In this month’s Spotlight we introduce Zest, a Leeds based charity which is supporting disadvantaged people in our city in some very practical ways.
Please take a moment to learn about the charity’s work and consider donating.
Since 2002 Zest has focussed on supporting people living in disadvantaged areas of Leeds (originally with a main focus on East Leeds). It aims to improve life chances by promoting healthier lifestyles and enabling fulfilling lives.
Zest run various social groups activities within the areas they supportaimed at improving wellbeing and reducing social isolation and reach the most vulnerable in our society. It is based at the Old Fire Station in Gipton, where is also runs a social enterprise café on site.
As well as financial donations, there is plenty of opportunity to support Zest’s work in practical ways. The charity is always looking for volunteers to participate in its programmes- including Jamie’s ministry of Food which it runs from Kirkgate Market. There volunteers can get involved in prepping, delivering or cleaning up after cooking classes!
Another way of supporting Zest is to sign up for one of the cookery classes run by its social enterprise company, the Leeds Cookery School. The school which is also based at the Old Fire Station offers a range of cookery classes and has just launched a new programme of classes. As well as these open events the Cookery School can also arrange teambuilding packages/away days, bespoke cookery sessions and specialist masterclasses from visiting chefs
