Story
Hi everyone, my name is Eva and I’m a Secondary Breast Cancer Warrior. I was first diagnosed in December 2016 when my wee girl was only 4 months old. I had treatment for what was primary cancer at the time and beat the bugger! Almost exactly a year later it came back. A recurrence this time but still curable. More treatment and a mastectomy later I was given the good news I had beat it again!
Unfortunately this wee bugger wasn’t about to give up and in June 2019 I was given the devastating news that the cancer had come back but this time it was in my sternum and my liver with suspicious lesions in my lung. Radiotherapy, surgery and chemotherapy followed. I will now be on treatment for the rest of my life. As my cancer is now stage 4 and won’t go away.
Yes it is tough, but I consider myself very lucky to have such amazing support in my friends and family and medical team. I’d like to raise awareness of this awful disease and with that money to help research into future treatments for anyone else going through this horrible disease.
Secondary breast cancer is breast cancer which has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Although secondary breast cancer can be treated, there is no cure. Unlike those living with primary breast cancer, there is no end of treatment, there is no remission. It’s estimated that 35,000 people are currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK yet only 7% of the National funding for cancer goes towards this incurable disease.
