Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For the last year I have been working at James Allen's Saturday School of the Performing Arts. Having been inspired by the wonderful JASSPA students, I am going to be taking my Grade 3 Music Theory in the Autumn Term! I will be teaching myself the material and taking the exam at the same time as the JASSPA Music Theory classes.
Despite having completed Grade 6 Flute, doing my exams with Trinity meant I never completed any music theory. I was really drawn to the idea of doing a Grade-A-Thon to raise some money for a local music charity but having not picked up my flute in 8 years (I’m not even
sure I can still read music…) I definitely couldn’t do it in the usual way -
learning a new instrument to Grade 1 standard as fast as possible.
Pembroke House's Academy of Music (PAM) is an amazing charity offering music tuition to the children of Walworth in Southwark. Their belief that all children should have the chance to engage with high quality musical training, regardless of who they are or where they come from is something which I strongly believe in and have been especially inspired by over the last year.
PAM provides this training at heavily subsidised rates for local children who would otherwise miss out. It’s three programmes—Baby PAM, Junior PAM, and Senior PAM—provide a progression route from age 0-14.
Music is not only a vital part of our lives, but it’s central to developing us as people. That’s why PAM focuses on developing technical musical skills alongside building soft skills like teamwork and confidence.
