Story

Ethan is 3 year old little boy who has been through more than most and yet still laughs in the face of it all and lets nothing stop him from having fun, back in May 2013 Ethan was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia or A L L for short. As with all cancer diagnosis this news was shattering for Ethan’s family and friends. Treatment began and Ethan responded well given all the needles, Chemotherapy, blood transfusions, lumber punctures, long hospital stays and cocktails of drugs Ethan never stopped smiling.

Unfortunately things were to take a turn for the worst and Ethan suffered a Stroke which left Ethan’s right side of his body limp and unable to sit up or eat unaided. Treatment for A L L was put on hold until the cause of the stroke was found, this was as I’m sure you can imagine a very trying time for Ethan’s parents who had not left his side in the 10 weeks plus Ethan had been in hospital. During a scan of Ethan’s brain and spine it was revealed that there were 3 large aspergillous infection growths on his brain, Doctors tried numerous treatments in the following weeks to eradicate these and failed. A lump was then found on Ethan’s spinel cord blocking vital blood and oxygen from the brain to the body leaving Ethan in a life threatening condition, emergency surgery was carried out and Ethan’s parents were told to expect the unthinkable.

Ethan is a fighter and this was not to beat him, he came round from his surgery and spent only a day in Intensive Care. Regular scans were carried out and the surgery had been a massive success and the growths were also showing signs of shrinking. Things were looking up and the mention of been able to go home for Christmas if a new treatment could be put in place for the A L L was keeping Ethan very excited. Treatment was resumed and to date everything is going very well.

Through all this there has been a charity that was there day and night for Ethan and his family, bringing support and comfort. Bringing gifts to Ethan when he was going through the worst of his treatments and spending hours playing and making Ethan smile. Ensuring not only was Ethan looked after but his parents too, bringing meals and advise, helping with complicated paperwork and talking through Ethan’s treatment and what to expect next. These are the Candle Lighters.

As a thank you to these remarkable people at Candle Lighters we would like you to help us raise money for this fantastic charity.

Candle Lighters keeps going and helping children and families with cancer through the funds raised by people like you.

Please help Ethan say a big thank you to The Candle Lighters for making an awful time a little easier and keeping that cheeky smile.

THANK YOU
