Story
As some of you may know - I've become the trustee of an amazing new charity that aims to give university education to people in countries who would otherwise never have the opportunity.
Studies have shown that when universities directly encourage entrepreneurship - there is a direct correlation to the rise in GDP of that country. Which means that there is a visible increase in the standard of living.
We aim to help 100,000 students achieve an entrepreneurship degree over the next five years and therefore hopefully 'Empowering a Generation' to bring positive change to their lives, their communities and even their countries.
It's a long road with so many universities and lecturers helping us bring costs down and we are starting with a vision to get 25 students fully funded on this journey by mid 2022.
It costs just over £2000 for us to make this happen. Yes, that is a true British ratified degree with British standards of marking - they have to actually earn the degree but with so many people volunteering their time and resources we have managed to drastically reduce the cost.
Raising £2100 will cover the cost of a 3 year degree for one student.
£700 will cover the cost of one years study
£350 will cover the cost of 6 months study
£70 will cover the cost of one months study
£18 will cover the cost of one weeks study
£4 covers the cost of a day's study.
So every amount, no matter how small, makes a difference.
I have taken the challenge of supporting the first students funding so I'm on the road to £2100!
Each month I will be taken up a challenge to raise funds (note, none of the staff of this charity are taking any money, it will all go to charity at this stage but naturally as admin duties increase, dedicated staff will be needed, but not at this time!)
The first event is going to kill me. Anyone who knows me, knows that whilst I can swim well, I hate front crawl. Absolutely hate it and avoid it completely.
But I'm going to put a float between my legs (so they can't be used) and try to swim 100 x 25m to cover 2.5k !
I originally aimed to do this on my birthday (17th Feb) but I've delayed it by a week to raise some awareness and will be doing it on 24th Feb.
Our vision is huge and although I want to raise money - I really want to inspire more people to get involved. I want every schools. college and university to get involved so that students themselves, help bring about change. I want businesses to give something back to those less fortunate by helping us to Empower a Generation and we need your help to not only raise more funds but to also support us in other ways.
This is project sponsor the first student! But then we have 99,999 more to go and together we will do it!
Please do share this and get in touch if you would like to get involved with helping us raise even more awareness and funding.
Now - donate!!
