Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling.
Mind - The Mental Health Charity believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone. To support the valuable work Mind do I will be running the Manchester Half Marathon on the 28th May.
Why am I running for Mind you ask? Let's face it we can all name half a dozen people we know who have battled cancer, but can you name six people in your life who have, or are, living with mental health problems? There's a good chance your answer is no, why is that? It's partly because mental health is still a topic people do not openly talk about, and partly because there are people out there dealing with their illness without any help or support because they simply don't know where to go. Mind are dedicated to making a change and I'm running to help them achieve their goal.
I have suffered from depression and anxiety, it hit me hard and without the support of my family and friends and a brilliant GP I don't know where I would be today. Openly talking to these people helped me get through the struggle to get on top of my illness. Some days are still harder than others, but last year I started running and what a difference this activity makes to me! Getting out in the fresh air, wind, rain and sometimes even snow, gives me a chance to refocus my emotions and perceptions....for me it's my form of meditation and it helps me stay on top, where I want to be, so I can enjoy my amazing little family, my job and my life.
It's time we change our view of mental health and start talking more. So, even if you are unable to sponsor me, please check out Mind's website and ask someone today "How are you really doing?"
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page...and you can now tick one of those six off as you know me, and I am proud to call myself a mental health survivor.
