Story

I know I've been posting a lot of donation requests over the last few years, but this one's marking a moment in my life, so I hope you'll forgive me.  I turn 40 in August. I can't quite believe it and it's feeling incredibly strange, so I'm trying to use it as a moment of reflection (and, hopefully, an excuse for a party at some point!).

Anyway, I've been taking a moment to count my blessings. My life's in a pretty decent place - I have a wonderful family, have done some very nice jobs and met some incredible people - and I can't help thinking how lucky I was to be born in 1978.  Particularly that I was in the last year of students that didn't have to pay tuition fees for university. When I think of everything I got out of university and how it allowed me to find my way in the world without the burden of enormous debt, I am very very grateful.

So, I'm hoping you can help me to help someone else have that experience - someone for whom that would be out of reach without us.  You might know the wonderful David Edgar (who also has a landmark birthday this year) and the brilliant Eve Brooks Scholarship Fund.  The fund was set up in memory of David's late wife Eve and supports young people who have been in care by giving them the opportunity to go to college or university.

I've set myself the challenge of running 1000km this year and I'd love to raise £1000 for the fund. I'm only asking for £1. If you'd like to help, you can text EBEM78 £1 to 70070.

Thanks xxx
