Back in 2016, Emma moved to Uganda for a year and worked for a charity that provides palliative care to adults and children across the country. Hospice Africa Uganda prides itself on not only providing support to patients with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, but providing palliative care training to healthcare professionals across Africa.

Whilst working with HAU in Hoima (about 3 hours north of Kampala) I met a number of patients I will never forget, many of them children. Without HAU, these children would have faced their final days, weeks, or months in agonising pain and fear. HAU is able to provide vital medication such as morphine, as well as social, spiritual and emotional support to whole families. I spent most of my time visiting patients in their homes, often in the middle of nowhere, with no resources. HAU also carries out hospital visits, outreach clinics and brings patients to the centre for outpatient appointments.

Over the last year, HAU like most charities, has suffered financially. Having been involved in the work of HAU for a number of years, and seeing first-hand the impact of their work, I can assure you that any donation will be life-changing for someone and their family.
