Story
25th April:
I finished!!!!! I'm soooo happy, and also very sore! Everything hurts. I did it in 5.49mins, aim was 5hrs, but I was just sooo happy to finish in the end, as it was really tough. A HUGE thank you to everyone for all your support, it really kept me going from about mile 13 onwards! My blood suagrs were kept healthy by people handing out sweets on the way :-D so no hypos which was a relief.
The medal is never coming off!!! I also now really really LoVe my sofa :-D
Thank you all again! My page can still receive donations, so if you haven't and would like to donate it would make me and Diabetes UK very happy!! Every penny is still really important and will make a difference to adults and children living with, and managing, Diabetes. The sky is the limit, so don't have to stop at £2,000!!! Emma............ aka marathon runner!!!!
24th April:
Marathon Tomorrow!!!!!!!! Very Very Scared!, Looks like it's going to be hot as well, so will be burnt as well as limping, great :-D
Thank you to everyone for allll your support, I'm reading it all now for motivation. Hopefully I will hit my target soon, which will be AmaZing! You have all been so generous. BIG THANK YOU!! I will update this with photos of the day on monday if I survive!
Jan 2010:
I had a mad 5 minutes that I needed a new challenge, and stupidly decided that a marathon was a brilliant idea! I now have to raise the HUGE sum of £2000!!! Ahhhh! Luckily though this is for a charity that I feel passionate about raising money for and hope you will too!!
I've had Type one Diabetes since the age of 13, since then the technology and knowledge around Diabetes has developed hugely. This has allowed me to take control over my blood sugars and so far avoid any Diabetic complications. Its made me confident enough to not let Diabetes stop me from living a normal life and doing stupid things like sky diving and attempting to run a marathon! It will be a MASSIVE achievement for me if I can reach the finish line and a huge boost to my sense of control over my diabetes, as controlling my blood sugars around the course will be a bit of a nightmare!
Diabetes UK is the leading charity working for people with diabetes, funding research and helping people live with the condition. Its mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to WORK TOWARDS A FUTURE WITHOUT DIABETES. Diabetes is increasing at a dramatic rate and it is soooo important that this organisation is able to provide its advise, support and life line to the many people that are affected by Diabetes, which can be a fatal and life destroying illness.
So pllllllleeeeeeeeaaaseeee support me, and give as MUCH or a little as you like, although more is always better :-) !!! I really NEED YOUR HELP to raise this money, as it is a HUGE amount. I promise to be inspired by every single donation on the way around, as I will have time to think about this many times over!!!
Thank you, you lovely people! :-)
Em xx
Feb 2010:
I'm SO happy to have passed 1/2 way to my money target. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for your support, it's feeling a bit more achievable. I ran 13.1 miles yesterday around London, and it poured down with sleet, so i had a very wet pair of trainers by the end. I decided that more pain now means less pain on the day, I hope that theory works!!!
8th March 2010:
I finished the Bath Half Marthon on sunday, horray! It wasn't as easy as planned! Although on a positive note, my blood sugars were well controlled. It has given me a boost to my motivation for the big day, well, the fear is working! Only 6 weeks to go, so I will be cramming in the training and doing everything possible to make April the 25th a little less unbearable! I'm even going to give up wine :-( !!! Thank you so much for all of the donations, the support has been amazing, and it means so much. Thank you!
March 22nd:
I ran the furthest I have in my life yesterday, 18.5 miles, wohoo! Getting there.... just 7.5 to add on!! It's going to realllly hurt!!!
