Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving Page! I’m running the Vitality Bath Half Marathon 2016 for Anthony Nolan on the 13th of March.
In June 2015 my best friend was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. MDS is a rare blood disorder, it means Alice has a high risk of developing leukaemia, and most importantly; she needs a bone marrow transplant.
As it stands she has a 90% match, with the transplant hopefully scheduled for this summer. But they're still looking and there are many more people out there who need to find a donor. Anthony Nolan is a fantastic charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer by matching people willing to donate their bone marrow (or stem cells) to patients in desperate need of a transplant.
Two bone marrow registers exist; an NHS register and the Anthony Nolan register. It costs £100 to put just one person on the register. If I hit my target of £300, that’s the potential for 3 lives saved.
So I have a few requests:
Please please please donate whatever you can, help me help my best friend, and the other 2,000 people per year in the UK who require a bone marrow transplant.
Secondly, if you are 16 - 30 and over 8 stone, please register with Anthony Nolan to be on the bone marrow register. It's free, easy and painless and all you have to do is spit in a tube. You could end up saving someone's life.
Finally, whether or not you want to know more about MDS, I recommend you check out Alice's blog. She's an incredibly funny and talented writer, and you can find it here: www.alicebyron.com.
