Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for ARCOS.
This month, next week in fact (!), I will be running the London marathon in aid of ARCOS.
ARCOS is a small charity that makes a huge impact for many, including my own family.
ARCOS's motto is 'Never say Never' and this also describes my long and winding road to London, which began in the summer of 2022. I initially had a place for the October 22 marathon but due to some unfortunate administrative jiggery pokery we lost the place 2 weeks before the marathon! Not wanting to lose out on the 'glory leg' of all the training, I entered Lake Dorney marathon which took place on the same day as London. I ran Lake Dorney Marathon in 3h35mins which incredibly meant I qualified for a Good For Age place for London 2023! Happily this means that ARCOS will now have 2 runners in the 2023 London Marathon. So please give your best support and biggest cheers for myself and fellow runner Sara on the day!
London is my 3rd road marathon but it will be my toughest yet. The constant noise and crowds will be hugely over-stimulating, and at times, I'm sure, overwhelming. I will work hard to manage this and will be running in mind of all the neurodiverse children and adults that have passed through ARCOS and other such organisations; for whom every day and every environment is like the London Marathon.
Who are ARCOS?
ARCOS, work to improve the lives of children and adults who have communication, eating, drinking and/or swallowing difficulties, and who require physical rehabilitation.
These conditions are often complex and can last their whole lives.
Several of their clients are told that there is nothing, or nothing more, that can be done for them.
ARCOS don't agree
After more than 30 years, ARCOS know there’s always something that can be done. They’re realistic, practical, and objective and their skilled and experienced team works together to provide long-term support that improves lives.
Where necessary, they also call on the help and support of their partners, who provide specialist services such as music therapy, physiotherapy, and therapeutic riding.
They don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’. That’s why the support they provide is as individual as the children, adults, and families they work with.
ARCOS are with them the whole way, and they never say never!
