Story
Thank you for visiting this page at this most exceptional time.
The President of Malawi declared a State of Disaster on 20 March relating to Covid 19 pandemic.
This, along with the cessation of all flights to the country will have a devastating impact on the economy of the country.
Every person employed in tourism supports around 14 people in their wider families and the same applies to the staff employed by Smile Malawi
Schools and colleges were all closed on 23 March and our older children have had to return to the centre at Bvumbwe putting a large strain on our resources.
In addition you will be aware that the London Marathon has been postponed, so Nik & Bex’s fundraising for Smile Malawi will be deferred until the Autumn.
As a result of this situation can I ask whether you can support us at this time? I am very aware that many of our supporters may be experiencing financial hardship at this time.
However can I appeal to those that are still able to maintain a steady income?
Now that all our cafés and restaurants are closed, could I ask you to please donate what you would have spent this month on a typical Family meal out at a restaurant, whether it be “Fish & Chips” from the local takeaway or a four course dinner at the “Aqua Shard” in London?
Unfortunately, you will not be able to enjoy eating out any time soon, but the children at our home will benefit hugely from your gift. Your donation will be a massive encouragement.
We also hope to increase our “on site” production of food and some of the funds raised will be used to purchase seeds, plants and fertilizer to make this possible.
As always we will continue to share our resources with the local village.
Thank you so much for all your support now and in years past. With your help the children can continue to thrive even in these challenging times.
