Story
July 2012, my uncle Kim was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. A terminal illness which slowly shuts down your muscles, leading to a person being unable to mobilise, move their arms, chew food, swallow, talk and eventually.. breath.
While fighting this disease, Kim did whatever he could to help other warriors, raising money and being a man anyone could talk to about anything. Back in 2013, I joked and said about taking on the Great South Run with my cousin Sam. We completed the run, and I caught the running bug from there. Since then, to raise awareness of MND and to raise money for the chairty, I’ve done a sky dive, runs ranging from 1 miles up to 50 miles, tea parties and travelled pretty much all over the country to support others in the same boat.
In 2014, Kim suggested going to the Solent Swim, meeting Ian Pratt, Sarah, Tony, Richard.. some of the trustees of the IPMNDF, which has become a yearly event I go to. As of 2017, it’s an event I support by Kayaking across the solent to support swimmers.
I’ve chosen to fundraise for the IPMNDF as Kim thought a lot of fellow warrior Ian, the chairty is just amazing and the team are beyond inspirational. All MND charities have the same objective so we need to find that cure!
