Running is something I do a lot of and I don't usually raise money for charity. But this year I am running one of the majors, VLM, and since I am lucky enough to have a Good for Age place I want to use it to remember and celebrate the life a young woman and family friend, Millie McLean, who has inspired us all with her spirit and passion for life. Millie died of cancer in October last year at the same age as my own daughter Caitlin, 16. We are all very privileged to have known her, and her fantastic mum, dad and two brothers. Millie had a taste for adventure and challenge. I feel pretty sure she would have gone on to run a marathon one day. So this one is for you Millie. The way you lived your life is already helping me get out for cold, dark runs I don't want to do as well as the one where the sun shines on my back.
Here's Mike, Millie's dad, to tell you more about Millie and explain where any sum you feel able to donate to my Run London for Millie fund for Teenage Cancer Trust will ultimately go.
When our daughter Millie was diagnosed with cancer, we experienced personally how Teenage Cancer Trust makes a difference to so many people. We witnessed how the TCT can make life more bearable for families during treatments and if they are lucky enough during remission and recovery. Millie was so excited by the plans for new TCT units and actively encouraged us all to fundraise for the projects. The beneficial effects of the TCT units can not be overestimated, giving the space and facilities appropriate to the needs of teenagers .Unfortunately there are not enough beds to meet demand. Through your sponsorship you can help TCT reach their aim to offer their services to all teenage cancer patients. Millie loved London and visited the city many times. I wish Ellie all the best as she whizzes past all the sights that hold so many happy memories for us. Sadly Millie died last year after a long struggle. I hope her passion and hopes can inspire us all to help this worthy charity.
