Most of you have followed Dan’s cousin’s battle with cancer over the last 3.5 years. After beating Bladder cancer and entering remission back in 2017 Laura got the devastating news that the cancer was back in her lungs last Autumn. She started chemotherapy almost instantly, which was gruelling, leaving her so sick and bed ridden 95% of the time. Eventually at the end of last year she and her consultant at Guys Hospital in London said enough was enough and they instead set her on a private trial of immunotherapy. 🏥
Unfortunately a routine scan at the end of June showed that this wasn’t working and Laura heard the dreaded words that her cancer was now terminal. 💔
However, this remarkable woman, determined not to be beaten, and Guys Hospital who are equally determined to treat Laura for as long as they can, immediately agreed to start her on a different type of chemotherapy, which is a huge deal for Laura bearing in mind how ill she was the first time around. She now has to travel down to London every three weeks to undergo this treatment. She’s had her second course today and sadly she is losing her hair. 😢
Regular readers will know that very soon after her original diagnosis, Laura and her family were referred to Team Verrico, a local charity that
supports families with cancer. They are the reason Laura is as well as she is because the majority of the treatments and procedures she has had have all been done privately and funded by this amazing charity.
So... what’s the purpose of this post I hear you ask??? Well I was originally signed up to take part in the Great North Run next month, and then 2020 happened! 🤦🏼♀️ so I’ve desperately been thinking of other ways to raise funds, and drastic ways to raise A LOT of money! I want to raise more money than I’ve ever raised before! 💵
And then I thought, how can I really support Laura, who despite being terminally ill, still puts the entire world before herself and has always been there for me when I’m having a hard time... 🤔
So yes. You’ve guessed it. I’m going to SHAVE MY HAIR in Laura’s honour! 🙈 my hair has never been so long so it’s seems the most ideal choice and time! HOWEVER - there is a catch! I need to raise a lot of money to persuade me to do this, I’m not doing it for £20! 🤣
So folks, dig deep. I know it’s been a bitch of a year but please think of Laura and Chris’ 7 year old daughter Mia who may well lose her mum way too early and dig deep.
Thank you 😘
