Story
In 2018 I cut 10 ½” off my hair and donated it to the Little Princess Trust. This amazing charity use donations of hair and use it to make wigs for children that have lost their hair after going through chemotherapy to treat cancer.
As hairdressers were closed during lockdown last year, I ended up growing my hair and thought I would carry on and donate it again. So in a few weeks I will be chopping it off!
As The Little Princess Trust will be receiving the donation of my hair, I will be collecting money for another brilliant charity that is very close to my heart. Restore is a charity set up by a group of ex-patients of the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead in 2010. Having gone through breast reconstruction themselves, they wanted to help women going through breast cancer and breast reconstruction by sharing their own reconstruction journeys and experiences. They do this by holding regular Show & Tell events where experienced nurses (my mum being one of them) explain the process and answer questions. There are also brave ladies that have undergone breast reconstruction that answer questions from a patient point of view. These sessions are held at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Darent Valley in Dartford and Worthing hospital (although they are being held on zoom at the moment). They are run by such a fantastic group of inspirational ladies with who I have volunteered with for a number of years.
The donations to Restore will go towards comfort packs and support garments and ensure items are available to make sure the patients having breast reconstruction surgery are as comfortable and relaxed as possible on the ward.
