Story
Some years ago my friend Fiona lost her beautiful 30 year old daughter Victoria to cancer. It took just a few weeks. The pain and grief for Victoria's family is just unimaginable. But Fiona was determined that good would come from this tragedy and she set up a charity to help other young women like Victoria. Having cancer when you are young, perhaps with little children, a busy job, and with everything ahead of you is so appalling. What do you tell the kids? how do you tell your Mum? how do you cope with the exhausting, brutal chemo when you have to also look after a baby, a toddler and keep the house clean? What about work? How do you come to terms with what cancer has done to your body, your confidence and self esteem? In the past year, two more of my close friends have had to face this terrible situation as their daughters have fought this vile disease. Victoria's Promise is a lifeline to young Women with Cancer, they offer support, counselling, an incredible new App where Women can chat, support each other and get the information they need. There are meet ups and workshops, pampering and help finding the right wig or the specialist clothes. They give loads of practical help too. They will send a cleaner for a few hours when a shattered Mum can't find the energy to clean the house, They will collect the laundry when it piles up and every clean sheet has been used as the treatments take a toll, they will put in place a police checked, professional childminder to collect the children and look after them whilst their Mum is in hospital and their Dad is at work or visiting her. They help in so many ways and it all relies on donations. The charity have a busy events programme including an annual ball that has kept them going but 18 months of COVID have depleted their funds. They need £12,000 a month until things pick up again next May. That's £400 a day. Please make a donation and let's give them 3 days of support. It will benefit dozens of incredible women and their families. Please help.
