Myself and my daughter Eva will be walking 10 miles round Millport in an organised event called Fantasy Island 50, most of the participants will be running and others along with ourselves have chosen to walk. My cousin Maria Righetti set up the charity Michael's Movers for Parkinsons which provides support for people with Parkinson's Disease and also their carers, money raised is also spent on medical reserch in Scotland.
Parkinsons is a degenerative disease of the brain that affects the nerve cells involved in movement. Because Parkinsons disease attacks the part of the brain that controls our movements it affects activities that the majority of us take for granted, such as talking, walking, swallowing and writing.
Maria's husband Michael, who i just love to bits was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1990 aged 30 years old, you can find out all about him on the Michael's Movers for Parkinson's website, he is an amazing guy who has come through so much in the last 23 years, he is an inspiration to me, he always has a smile on his face and a cheeky wee joke to tell, he's also a very handsome chap.
Now Maria, well what can i say about Maria? Wonder Woman rolls off my tongue without even opening my mouth, she has worked tirelessly for the charity since she set it up in 2011 and has raised in excess of £30,000 to help Parkinson's sufferers. This year she is attempting to run 2013 miles to raise money for the charity, she has almost completed her target, she amazes me, her positive outlook in life is so infectious.
Please help me and Eva reach our target to raise £300.00 to help this amazing charity who have made a difference to so many Parkinson's sufferers lives, we will be so grateful for anything you can donate.Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
