We provide mental health training to help people look after their wellbeing

Story

The wellbeing of the mental health of our young men is why I am running this half marathon.  We have to do better.

Having had an extended period of time witnessing and supporting a variety of people close to me through mental health issues, I am left feeling that we still have a LOT more to do.  In discussing this topic with friends and colleagues, virtually everyone opens up with their own story - and typically in their immediate family or v close friend.  So, this is a true iceberg from what I can tell.  Despite being so pervasive, supporting someone going through this is like being thrown into a washing machine. It’s a whole new world to learn - and you’re doing that at a time when you’re in a state of stress.  So learning the early warning signs and what to do (ahead of time) becomes critical in order to stop things getting out of control.  This is easier said than done - as well as parents and teachers knowing what to look for,  it ultimately requires a culture within friendship groups that look for the unusual and a willingness to speak up.

This topic has had a life altering impact on me, my family and close friends.  So, today starts my journey to raise awareness and to raise funds for the Charlie Waller Trust, who do such good work in this area. While asking for contributions in January and in a cost of living crisis is far from optimal (!), if you can spare a few pounds and words of encouragement while I drag my body around the streets of the Cambridge half marathon in March, that would be truly appreciated.  This will help the Charlie Waller Trust continue to do its great work.
