Story
Hi, I've been invited again to volunteer to help the Yorkshire Aid Convoy deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as a driver. The money raised through my JustGiving page will help to buy much needed items and to help cover the costs of fuel and general transportation of getting those items to Ukraine.
Starting on 7th March 2024 – we get the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, arriving early in the morning of the 1st September. We will be a convoy of at least 18 drivers in 9 trucks, maybe more as we get closer to the off.
The convoy then drives through Belgium into Germany, past Frankfurt heading south-east. We have an overnight stay in Germany, near the Austrian border, then continue the next day into Austria, past Vienna and on into Hungary. Through Hungary and to the Ukrainian border for another overnight stay.
Next day we rendezvous with our Ukrainian charity contacts to hand over our aid at a distribution point somewhere in Ukraine. Our aid will then get distributed to hospitals, military units and a local charity. After a nights sleep in Ukraine we head back westwards to the border.
We don’t really know what challenges we might face on the journey but we will endeavour to provide any more assistance to the locals while we are there.
Then it’s the long journey home having delivered over 120 tons of aid.
