Story

Hi!  Growing up with Cerebral Palsy has been a challenge, I realize that it is because of each of the challenges that I was given, I have gotten stronger.

I was diagnosed at a year and a half.  Surgeries, leg braces and so many doctor appointments.  In the beginning the doctors were filled with what I could not do and would not be able to do.  No talking, no walking, no school.  I would not be able to use my hands and I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 5 years old.

Where are those doctors today?  I talk for a living. I walk 5K's each year, although those are getting more difficult just because I am not as young as I once was.  I made it through school, I was the first child with challenges to be mainstreamed in to the CMS system.  Thanks to Mrs. Crosby and my Mom.  I graduated from college with an Early Childhood Education degree.

I have a strong family, that would not let me give up.  I have two brothers that teased me to no end and parents that fought for me as I grew up and taught me how to fight and speak up for myself to this day.  I truly would not be where I am today without my family and friends. I met everyday challenges head on and do my best not to give up.

Where I am today, I walked through the doors of one of the offices at Easterseals UCP in 1994 to help with fundraising events, talk to parents of children who also have CP and talk to the children.  Now for the last 10 years I have worked  with children and adults with challenges.  I have found my place, in that same building I walked into, in 1994 , I am working with children each day and watching and listening to them reach their goals!

It is not only for the children that I see and work with each day, here at the Autism center, but all of the others that receive services through Easterseals UCP, that I ask your help to reach my goal so that more of my children here can talk.  So that someone can find a job with the help of our supported employment team and so much more. Thank you in advance and your consideration and support, it is very much appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Easterseals UCP fundraising page. I'm excited to raise vital funds for such an important mission!Throughout all of life’s moments, from ordinary to extraordinary, Easterseals UCP is here. With your generous support, you help Easterseals UCP reach 22,000 children, adults and families to take positive steps toward independence, education, employment and improved mental health.
