Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the ELM Gig Guide JustGiving page.

Having trained for the past two years to become a social worker, I have now returned to the care sector to assist with local authority provision during the COVID-19 crisis. I am aware of how important it is to support key workers and families at this time. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children doesn’t stop during times of crisis and needs our help more than ever. The sick kids hospital is personally important to me having been hospital radio DJ and play worker there for 2 years.

ELM Gig Guide was set-up in 2011 to help keep local live music alive in east and Midlothian. We are organising a series of live streamed gigs during the lockdown as part of the the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital emergency COVID-19 fund. By organising a series of live streamed performances we are attempting to raise £1000 to make a child’s stay at hospital easier at this difficult time.

COVID-19 is changing all of our lives, and The Royal Hospital for Sick Children urgently needs you to help children and their families.

These are unprecedented times for all of us. Right now, you may be feeling scared, stressed, isolated from family and friends, or worrying how you will keep yourself and your family fed and occupied. Now imagine you have a child in hospital.

Just like at home, things are different at the “Sick Kids”, and children and families are anxious as the pandemic progresses. Families are having to cope with the impact of this outbreak on top of the distress of having a sick or injured child.

The incredible NHS staff are working round the clock to make sure every child gets exceptional care throughout the crisis, but they need your help to reduce fear and isolation, and to comfort and support families when they need it most.

Help them by donating to ECHC.

The ECHC Shop in the hospital is providing an emergency parcel of essential items so that parents don’t have the additional stress of shopping for their families while their child is in hospital. It costs £10 to provide an emergency parcel.

Play specialists are working hard to provide smiles and distraction while the ward playrooms are closed. £15 could pay for a special play session at a child’s bedside.

ECHC provides parent accommodation so that parents can stay close to their children during the lockdown. £50 could pay for mum or dad to be with their children for a whole week.

Times are difficult for all of us, and we hope that you and your family are safe. If you are in a position to do so, please donate now to support the children, families and staff of the “Sick Kids”.
