Story
Having experienced this first hand it has become a charity very close to my heart. Watching someone suffer with this disease and turn into someone that is unrecognisable from the person that taught you most in life is very hard to accept. The inevitable question is always why my family, which I guess everybody asks. I know the suffering that families go through first hand. It is also an area which is under funded and supported, even though the number of people suffering from Dementia increases every year yet there continues to be a lack of investment in this area. I would therefore like to raise the awareness of this terrible disease and raise as much money as possible to help find a long term cure for it, so future families do not have to go through the pain and suffering my family experienced.
'ADS' is a local and independent charity that assists, guides and actively supports people living with Dementia, their Carers and families in our local area.
Their services provide engaging, meaningful interactions and activities with advice and a 'someone always ready to listen'. Many of the Services do not need to be pre-booked. They work closely with other Agencies to signpost to additional support and information.
