Story
A few years ago I underwent an operation to have both hips replaced. While I was going through physiotherapy to learn how to become mobile again my wife was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. As my own rehabilitation progressed I wanted to find a way to help her and others to have every chance of recovery or to keep this dreadful disease at bay for as long as possible.
That’s when the seeds of this challenge were planted. I wanted to do something exceptional which would raise funds to help fight this disease. So, in October 2019, I took on the challenge of 2 successive Marathons in the Moroccan Sahara for Parkinson's UK. I aim to raise £53,000 - a thousand pounds for each mile.
My training included the Great Glen Challenge on 29 June 2019. This was a 32 mile trek along Loch Ness finishing near Inverness. I did regular 6, 10 and 15 mile walks which, as well as preparing me for the Saharan Challenge, provided me with plenty of thinking time. I have been sharing these thoughts here as I faced this challenge.
I am keen to spread the message concerning Parkinson's and this challenge in particular. So, if you are able to contribute - which I would greatly appreciate - and would like to help, then please use the links below to share with as many people as you can. If lots of people donate a reasonable sum, then my target of £53,000 may be attainable.
Any donation is very welcome and much valued. Thank you for your generosity in supporting me in this effort.
Duncan.
