Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After years of promising to do a major fund raising event I finally committed to running the 2010 Virgin London Marathon on the 25th April to raise funds for The Anthony Nolan Trust (www.anthonynolan.org.uk).
The Anthony Nolan Trust has been my favoured charity since the death of a close school friend. Having been diagnosed with Leukaemia in his early 20's and having exhausted all other forms of treatment Matthew was lucky to find a donor. Unfortunately, for Matthew, the donor fell pregnant and could not then go through the procedure. In the late 80's finding one donor was lucky finding a second proved impossible and Matthew died before the original donor could proceed.
Due to everyone's generosity to date I have revised my target and I now hope to raise a minimum £7,500. This would be tremendous total and would allow The Anthony Nolan Trust to add 60 more volunteer donors to their register, thus increasing the chances of finding a matching donor. If getting a few blisters (!!) can achieve this then every ache and pain will be worthwhile. Obviously, the more money we can raise the more volunteers can be added and hopefully lives saved!!
The fund raising to date has exceeded all my expectations, so a huge thanks to all who have donated so far. Seeing the donations increase certainly helps as I enter the final weeks of training before the big day!! Any amount you can donate is very much appreciated and is going to a great cause so please do what you can to help.
It was a fantastic day and I managed to complete the run is 4:43:47, slower than I hoped but it was tougher than I thought!! I felt I'd earned the medal at the end!! The support given by the public and also by the Anthony Nolan supporters was tremendous and incredibly welcome. They work for such a good cause they deserve our support!!
