Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Sabrina and I am 26 years old. In late 2014 and January 2015 I became very unwell being sick all the time, feeling tired all the time and I got overly stressed. I felt pressurized at work and so felt I had no other option but to hand my notice in, I haven't worked since January 2015. In February 2015 I got the devastating news that I had IgA Nephropathy Stage 4 with 16% kidney function, which is a type of Chronic Kidney Disease, I was told my kidney's wouldn't last me and they could fail within months, maybe years but they would fail.
May 2015 I had my routine blood test and I got the devastating news over the phone from one of the renal consultants that I had now reached Stage 5 which meant Kidney Failure and now a very critical 5% I had to go into hospital straight away and have a cannula in my neck into my main vein, it was awful. I had to have that in for 8 weeks and had to have intense Hemodialysis.
I later had an operation to fit in a catheter and change over to Peritoneal Dialysis.
In June I had half a day up hospital learning how to do dialysis 4 times a day every day. A very time consuming and not pleasant experience.
I recently have been told that my dialysis isn't working properly so I continue to feel unwell, the best way to describe it is like having flu all day, everyday. It is awful. I wouldn't wish it on any body.
I am awaiting transplant. I recently signed the deceased donor list plus my after many tedious and long tests my mother is a match and we have a date for transplant April 12th 2016.
Kidney transplants commonly last anywhere between 12-18 months sometimes more and sometimes less, as less as days and as more as year. There is no telling how long a transplanted kidney will last but what we do know is currently there is no cure!
I have a life time of hospitals, failing kidneys, medications, needles, sickness etc.
Some people unfortunately die waiting for a kidney. We need to stop this!
This is where myself and other kidney patients need your help. Every little donation counts, it helps with research and in the hope that one day a cure maybe found. Your donation goes onto help save lives and a possible cure, your donations mean so much to us :)
You do not have to donate a specific amount, just however much you would like. Every little bit helps. Thank you.
