Story
We're a national charity supporting serving and retired police dogs from across the United Kingdom! Many people are unaware that retired police dogs do not receive financial support in their retirement from the force they served with, meaning the responsibility for their care and vet bills fall solely to their ex-handler or new owner. Unable to get pet insurance due to their working life, many are left with ongoing vet bills which can amount to thousands. The foundation provides much needed financial support to these unsung canine heroes.
To all the kind people who are happy to support us and help us raise as much money as possible for an amazing charity The Thin Blue Paw Foundation.
Our amazing dogs police dogs are our crew mates and best friends, they protect both us and members of the public, track offenders and missing, vulnerable people and locate stolen property. General purpose police dogs are used as a less lethal option in firearms incidents and have the opportunity to develop into Firearms Support Dogs. Our specialist dogs are able to locate drugs, cash and firearms and some are also training to search for digital media like simcards. They are very brave and clever. They are valued members of our specialist teams and their work and commitment is highly appreciated.
When they retire their handlers are able to keep them forever or they retire with other suitable people in their forever homes.
Unfortunately after retirement there is no support for their medical treatment and It is often not possible to insure our hard working dogs. The Thin Blue Paw Foundation has been set up to support all retired police dogs. Two of our retired Police Dogs, RPD Harper and RPD Redd are already supported by the charity.
Our eldest and most experienced PD Nala is due to retire this year and will also be registered with the charity.
We have decided we will get together and support the charity when we can.
8 Northants Dog Handlers will be together climbing Mount Snowdon!!
Unfortunately RPD Nala who originally intended to represent the dogs has sadly had to withdraw due to a deterioration in health.
RPD Spike from Leicestershire Police along with his mum will now be making it his mission to achieve the summit in support of this team. He will be taking it nice a slowly. Spikes current condition causes him no pain and is a form of disability that is just not suited to the demands of police work. His fitness and health are good. Spikes mum said “we have all the faith that he will achieve this feat if approached with care!”
Please support our pooches, they are hardworking and deserve the best care when they eventually put their paws up and retire.
Thank you for all the donations so far ❤️ 🐕
