Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The reason I have chosen this charity is because 1 in 10 people are affected by vertigo which is a symptom of Meniere's.
I have a family member that suffers with Meniere's Disease. She was diagnosed in 2015, she lost her job and independence and was housebound for 18 months. She gets Meniere's attacks this means she has really bad vertigo attacks which can last hours and leave her on the floor, it also causes nausea, tinnitus, aural fullness and unfortunately hearing loss, she now wears a hearing aid in her affected ear. The whole experience can be really distressing as there isn't much warning of when its going to happen, this can lead to anxiety and depression as it turns your life upside down.
Ménière’s disease is a long term, progressive condition affecting the balance and hearing parts of the inner ear. Symptoms are acute attacks of vertigo (severe dizziness), fluctuating tinnitus, increasing deafness, and a feeling of pressure in the ear.
The cause of Ménière’s disease is unknown. Many factors are thought to be involved in the development of the condition (e.g. increased pressure of the fluid in the inner ear). The progression of the disease however remains unclear.
From my personal experience, I get motion sickness after being on rollercoasters or boats. My symptoms are vertigo - dizziness and nausea. This usually stops me from sleeping and eating which is quite distressing when I might have school or I'm studying to do.
My main goal for this bake sale is to create enough awareness and money to make a difference to someone who has a vestibular disorder. So please help us defeat dizziness and donate today!
