Story

This page is set up in memory of my Grandma (Nani) Mrs. Chandrabala Himatlal Nandha who born in July 1940, sadly passed away on 7th February 2021.

About our Nani:

Our Nani was the heart and soul of our family. She was a loving wife (to Mr Himatlal Nandha), mother (to six children) and a very special grandmother to 13 grandchildren!

Nani had a number of health issues, such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, myeloma, rheumatoid, arthritis and she was registered as Sight Impaired. Despite her health issues, our Nani remained very positive and was very independent.

Nani was a very fun-loving person who always had time for her family and friends, we will dearly miss her. She has left a void in our family, but I will always live my life following her teachings and blessings.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, my family were unable to visit my Nani and we couldn’t even hug her whilst she was suffering in silence. We spoke daily on Zoom and Facetime, but that was never the same as speaking and holding her hands.

In Mid 2018, she was diagnosed with myeloma and her cancer treatment had just started. She was admitted to hospital and sadly never returned home.

Vista had been the one of the longest supporting charity that my Nani really appreciated and she’d be proud of what we are about to achieve.

We’ve chosen the weekend of July as she would have been 81 years old. We hope to make her proud!

My brothers and I are cycling 100 miles over three days to raise money for her local charity called Vista (more details below). We aim to complete two 40 mile trips and the last 20 miles we will be joined by my friends and family.

The money raised will support many more families in the same way they supported my Nani.

Please also select Gift Aid  which is a government scheme for UK charities to reclaim the tax you have paid and gain 25% more at no cost or hassle to you.  All funds go directly to Vista.

How you can help:

Vista is one of the oldest and largest local charities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They’ve been working with people with sight loss and their families for over 160 years.

Their aim is to:

  • Promote eye health to prevent avoidable sight loss
  • Reduce the impact of sight loss
  • Provide support and care for people affected by sight loss

As well as rehabilitation, residential homes and social groups Vista provides specialist services for people with learning disabilities, dementia and dual sensory impairment.

They at the point of diagnosis, support children and adults in eye clinics by providing information, advice, guidance and support when it's most needed.

Vista will teach people with sight loss new skills and provide specialist equipment and tools. Their qualified specialist staff have a wealth of experience in supporting people with sight loss to develop important practical, social and emotional skills, building their confidence and independence.

They aim to tackle social isolation and ensure that every person they work with has real human contact, through social groups to people who would otherwise be isolated and unable to leave their homes.

Losing your sight can be frightening. Vista is there, enabling people to regain their independence and live fulfilling lives.
