Story
I'm going to be strapped to the wing of a biplane! A Boeing Stearman will take off, with me attached (firmly I hope), from Leeds East Airport (former RAF Church Fenton base) to fly through the air at speeds of up to 135mph.
There will be ground training to do and hand signals to learn before I’m allowed to climb on the wing. Apparently, my cheeks may flap and my eyes stream, but it’ll be fun right? Well anyway, it’s all for a good cause! I hope you’ll help me raise funds for the Paget’s Association’s 50th Anniversary Campaign.
Bill's Paget's - It is so important to keep the Paget's Association, a national UK charity, going as those affected by Paget's disease can feel very alone, especially if no one around them has heard of it. The Association supports people like Bill, who suffered from pain and fractures, before finally being diagnosed with Paget's Disease. Once Bill found the charity, he received the help and support he needed. The photo of Bill (see the gallery) was taken at one of the Association’s Information Events.
The Paget's Association (charity registration no. 266071) is the only UK charity to solely support those affected by Paget's Disease of Bone, providing information, expert advice and so much more.
What is Paget's disease? It affects the normal repair and renewal process of bone. Throughout life, bone is renewed and repaired through a process called bone remodelling. Pagets disease is characterised by abnormalities in this process. Bone affected by Paget's disease may be enlarged and misshapen. Symptoms can include severe pain and deformity of the bone. Complications include fractures and deafness.
Please help if you can. Thank you so much!
