Story
On the 20th and 21st of May, we are walking 37 miles of the Norfolk Coastal Path to raise money for HEART UK. We will be walking through the day and night from Brancaster to Cromer to raise awareness for this amazing charity.
HEART UK is the UK’s only cholesterol charity, providing support, information and influencing services for families and health professionals. Their vision is to help people know and understand their cholesterol and other blood fat (lipid) levels and take appropriate action. This will help prevent people suffering from early disease and reduce the deaths from cholesterol and other blood fat (lipid) conditions in the UK. This is a cause close to our hearts as in September 2017 one of our club members lost their partner, a fellow young farmer, to heart failure whilst playing in a rugby match.
Lucy, who will be amongst the Dereham Young Farmer members tackling this trek, has written a few words about why HEART UK means so much to her.
"I am truly thrilled that Dereham YFC have chosen to support HEART UK as the chosen charity for the forthcoming year. In September 2017, my life flipped upside down. On the 16th of September, which started as any normal day, ended completely differently to how I had planned. The plan was to attend a Suffolk YFC event, but this didn’t quite happen. Whilst playing one of the sports he loved my best friend Josh suffered heart failure whilst playing Rugby for Thurston Rugby Club. I’m so proud of his legacy that has been remembered since his passing. Tens of thousands of pounds have been raised for HEART UK since. Josh had three main hobbies, Young Farmers, Cricket, and Rugby and he is remembered by each organisation due to his cheerful personality and ability to make everyone happy around him. Once A Ranger, Always a Ranger. #BearsGoneWild"
We hope you will join us in raising money for this great cause.
Thank you for your support.
