I’m shaving off my hair in aid of the Farm Safety Foundation who support farm workers’ safety and mental health
I work for British Sugar in their Grower Services department. A large part of my role is speaking with our growers day-in, day out and assisting with their queries.
I recently discovered a shocking statistic that, on average, one agricultural worker per week in the UK commits suicide. So I decided I had an opportunity to help those who face a lot more serious issues than my own.
I have been covering my grey hair with hair dye for years. Gradually I have become increasingly intolerant to hair dye, so I have two options 1) grow out the colour resulting in longer and longer grey roots for many months, or 2) shave it all off and start again. I have decided to brave the second option and go for the shave, which I am doing for charity on Friday 29 November in Samson Place.
Farm Safety Foundation (www.yellowwellies.org) support farmers by raising awareness of mental health issues. Their research reveals that four out of five young farmers (under 40) believe mental health is the biggest hidden problem facing farmers today.
I would be delighted if you would support this much-respected and valued cause. I will be leaving a collection tin at Samson Place Reception and you can also make a donation via this site.
Your donations will help Farm Safety Foundation develop resources, training sessions and campaigns to increase the awareness around mental health in farming.
Thank you very much for your time.
