Carters rescue

Carters rescue · 28 November 2016
The 25th July 2016 will stay in my mind forever as it's the day a tragic accident almost cost me the life of my precious son.
As it was the first day of the school holidays I took my two youngest children to work with me that day. I work for a fantastic family at Waterloo farms and I consider my employer abi to be a very good friend. As a working mum it's great to be able to take my children to work with me sometimes. My son Carter, my little girl Hallie and abi's son Henry went out in a gator (a small farm vehicle) to do some jobs for his mum.
I went out to make sure they were all strapped in and told them to be carful. As they drove of they had huge smiles on their faces and Carter had his arm round Hallie.
About 10 minutes later I was working in the kitchen when I heard a huge bang from outside, and a feeling of complete and utter panic consumed me.
I could hear abi screaming and her daughter Lydia ran in to get me. My legs just didn't wanna move I was frozen in absolute fear.
I ran outside to see the gator had crashed into the fence and overturned. Henry had been thrown out and little Hallie was running towards me but I couldn't see Carter.
As I got closer I could see his body crushed underneath the gator and I could hear him whimpering.
We tried to lift it off him but it was just so heavy it seemed like an eternity, yet it was only minutes till the three of us managed to free him. Carter had to pull himself out, he was so unbelievably brave.
As Carter emerged abi grabbed him and the shock instantly set in and he collapsed. I just laid with him and comforted him until the emergency services arrived.
Carter was grey and his lips were blue he was bleeding from the top of his leg, Screaming as we tried to move him into the recovery position.
Within 10 minutes two ambulances arrived followed by the yorkshire air ambulance.
They immediately began working to stabilise Carter as he was in a critical condition. I could see the fear in carters eyes he needed constant reassurance, he then began to slip in and out of consciousness.
Miraculously Hallie and Henry were fine just abit battered and bruised,. Hallie just bumped her bum but had received no real injuries as during the crash Carter kept tight hold of his baby sister. Henry hurt his arm but was so lucky when the gator overturned it threw him onto the grass.
We were so lucky to have the Yorkshire air ambulance respond as carter required urgent medical attention.
We were airlifted to James cook hospital which took only minutes Compared to travelling via an ambulance.
I cannot thank them enough for their speedy response in our hour of need. I believe carters recovery is down to the fact he received immediate hospital care.
Carter suffered fractures to his pelvis, broken hip and 2 deep lacerations to his thigh and multiple glass cuts.
After 5 days in hospital Carter managed to stand again using a walking frame and the following day he took his first few steps.
His recovery and strength of character has amazed everyone around him. He is one amazing little man and I'm so very proud to be his mum.
Carters accident was filmed by Helicopter ER and his accident, rescue and recovery will be shown on channel 155(really) on the 28th November at 10pm.
Carter would love people to watch and see how they helped him and donate to such a fantastic cause.
