On the 31st January, Mike and Rob received the heart breaking news that their dear mum Janet had passed away from Guillain-Barré syndrome. Many people, ourselves included, had never heard of it.

After doing some research, we found out that Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare but serious autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks healthy nerve cells in your peripheral nervous system (PNS)

This leads to weakness, numbness ,and tingling, and can eventually cause paralysis. Only certain tests can reveal if someone has GBS including a lumbar puncture, which Jan was due to have the Friday that she died. GBS finally reached Jans heart. She fell asleep and never woke.

Guillain-Barré syndrome can affect anyone. It can strike at any age and both sexes are equally prone to the disorder. GBS is estimated to affect about one person in 100,000 Only 3%-5% of GBS patients die from complications.

The reason we have decided to set up this fundraising page is to highlight GBS so people have an insight and understanding of how and why Janet passed away. As most are aware, we have a service for Jan this Friday and the family have asked for no flowers. If people would like to make a donation to this page, the money would go towards further research of GBS and treatment and rehabilitation for those who are living with the after affect of the syndrome.

We can not thank people enough for all of their donations so far. We are totally overwhelmed by people’s kindness. The original target was £300, which we went passed so quickly. So we then changed the target to £500. Seeing as we have totally smashed that target, we have raised it one more time.
