Story
We unexpectedly lost our beloved Mother, Davina McCreery, on 14 May 2023.
Whilst nothing will ever fill the space that she has left, we want to do as many positive things as we can to honour her incredible life.
Something practical that we are able to arrange, that could be of huge benefit to our local community, is to ask friends and family to donate to the Suffolk Arts & Culture Fund.
Davina was an artist, a creator, a walking bag of talent, essentially. And that's aside from always looking like a movie star, of course! She loved to write, paint, draw, sing and dance. She even played guitar, albeit it a while ago. Even at 80, she was familiar with new music coming out and surprised us all at her popular culture knowledge. At times she reminded us of an excited 15 year old girl, trapped inside an aging body - she never lost her sense of appreciation at the creative world. Her tastes were broad and unexpected - she'd have a little boogie along to Eminem or Tina Turner as much as she would enjoy Spanish guitar concertos or Madame Butterfly.
That's why the Suffolk Arts & Culture Fund, part of the Suffolk Community Foundation, perfectly fits the bill in terms of supporting things that Davina was passionate about.
The Fund supports equality of access to all the benefits that arts, culture and music can provide to improve the lives of the people of Suffolk. Money raised is used to support the work of charities and community groups in Suffolk, who can then enrich the lives of the people they support.
Examples of groups funded by the Suffolk Arts & Culture Fund's grants panel are:
- Common Ground Theatre Company Ltd
- Out Loud Music
- Friends of Jubilee Park
- Ginnel Foto Community
- The Voice cLoud
- BSEVC
- Emmaus Ipswich
- Oyster Community Press
Even if the money raised just touches ONE person enough to encourage them on a creative path and helps them to reap the invaluable rewards from it, then we are sure that it will put a big smile on Davina's face, wherever she may be.
Please donate and make a difference.
Thank you for being here.
