We provide services to improve LGBTQ+ health & wellbeing

Story

In remembrance of David we have set up a fundraising page to support London Friend, a charity organisation in which he was involved and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support. I've included information about London Friend below.

London Friend is turning 50 this year!

London Friend is the UK's oldest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans charity established nearly 50 years ago in 1972. It was started up as an offshoot of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, the first British gay activist group, before becoming its own registered charity. It was set up to provide counselling and support to the LGBTQ+ community which it continues to do today.

Throughout London Friend's history, it has delivered support through helplines, counselling sessions, social meetings, and several other activities. The services London Friend offers are essential to the LGBT+ community in supporting health and wellbeing, something that has become more vital in the time of the pandemic.

As we turn 50 this year, we hope to use our birthday to celebrate London’s diverse LGBT community, commemorate the heritage of the capital’s LGBT movement and reflect on London Friend’s past, present, and future work to support the mental health and wellbeing of those who need us.

London Friend is the oldest LGBTQ+ charity in the UK, set up in 1972. The charity promotes health and well-being for LGBTQ+ people providing group & individual support. London Friend also runs Antidote, the LGBTQ+ drug & alcohol project.

London Friend services include:
COUNSELLING: Low-cost one to one counselling. All our counsellors identify as LGBTQ+ and work within the BACP ethical framework. We also offer a specialist counselling service for LGBTQ+ people who have experienced domestic abuse as part of the London LGBT Domestic Abuse Partnership.
ANTIDOTE: A specialist service offering support around drugs, alcohol and chemsex for LGBTQ+ people. We can support whether you want to stop using or drinking completely or to gain more control over your drinking or drug use. We offer non-judgemental support, one to one and in groups.
SOCIAL AND SUPPORT GROUPS: A range of groups including coming out support, social groups, and activities, trans and non-binary support, and more.

London Friend won a GSK IMPACT UK Award in 2016, given to small and medium-sized charities excelling in health and wellbeing. The charity also won a National Diversity Award in 2014. In 2016 their volunteers were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
