The Scottish Mountain Rescue team are real life heros. They are almost entirely made up of volunteers who risk their own lives every time they get a call out in order to help others in distress. For no compensation other than the reward of helping their fellow human-kind.
In the nature of their work, the call outs are most often in the worst of conditions, frequently in winter and often in failing light. Chosing to go out into such a dangerous environment, often with little information on the situation can't be understated. 
Unless you have had the unfortunate experience of getting into trouble in the stunning Scottish mountains, you have no idea how terrifying it can be. Knowing that these heros are there (which they were when David had his heart attack) is incredibly reassuring. 
It's often a thankless task.
