Story
This is the JustGiving page, set up in memory of David Simpson.
An initiative ran by Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation is providing lifesaving defibrillators in a range of places across the Island. This particular initiative is the reason we feel particularly strongly about this charity and why it really is so close to our hearts. On May 23rd this year we lost our Dad, who was just 60 years old, to a heart attack. This happened when he was at work and despite being given CPR, unfortunately his colleagues did not have access to a defibrillator before
the ambulance arrived. We can’t say for certain if the outcome would have been different if there had been a defibrillator available. However, according to the British Heart Foundation a defibrillator is its most effective when administered within the first minute of a victim collapsing and if a defibrillator is used within the first 3 to 5 minutes, the likelihood of survival increases from 6% to 74%. It is estimated that 40,000 lives a year are saved due to a defibrillator in the UK.
Having a defibrillator nearby can really be the difference between life and death. We are currently experiencing the overwhelming pain of losing a loved one unexpectedly (and too soon) and hate the idea of anyone else having to go through this. Therefore, we are passionate about supporting CHF in our Dad’s memory to ensure that more defibrillators are made available around the Island, particularly as they don’t get government funding so rely solely on any donations in order to keep going.
Thanks,
