Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’ve struggled with my mental health in recent years but thanks to identifying new strategies through medical support clinical hypnotherapy I’m now in a really good place, although still a work in progress for the foreseeable future. (Message me if you want details of how to access this support 🤓)

My illness also manifested itself physically- resulting in morbid obesity and the associated medical conditions that brings. I’m heavier than I have ever been and to be honest I’m struggling with the most basic physical activity.

However......... I can’t afford to be consumed with shame and self loathing. Been there, done that, bought the xxxxxl T-shirt! I can’t change what brought me to this point BUT I can use my current situation to achieve something positive for myself and others.

I’ve decided to have my journey monitored publicly over the next 12 months and beyond. The reading on the scales will be there for all to see (Eeeeeeeek!) along with photographic evidence diarising my progress. But...........I need your help and support my friends. I really can’t do this on my own. If you can support my journey through a donation, however small, to Breast Friends and Family it will give me the added motivation and accountability that I really need to achieve my goal.

My husband Stephen and I both have friends and family affected by breast cancer. Hazel Orr and her family coordinate the Breast Friends and Family charity which does some amazing work. Hazel is a breast cancer survivor herself and is also my brother’s partner so this is a cause close to our hearts.

My starting photos were taken a few days ago at Glitz & Glam photography in Armadale and I will be returning each month for updated pics! I’m hoping that some of you might spread your sponsorship as smaller payments each time I post the monthly update pics. This would really help to keep me on track 💜

Thanks for reading my message. I’m in this for the long haul and could use some company along the way. Much love, David x

About the charity

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.
