We seek mental health equality for everyone to end mental ill-health discrimination.

Story

6 million people in the UK are suffering from depression, anxiety and emotional stress according to the Department of Health. A further 8 million people suffer with a variety of other mental disorders.

6,000 people commit suicide in the UK every year. That’s the equivalent of one person every two hours, every day. The figure is rising. In fact, it has doubled since 2008. The suicide rate among men between the ages of 16 and 25 has risen alarmingly.

CLASP - Counselling Life Advice Suicide Prevention Charity raises awareness, support & funds for those suffering the Stigma surrounding Mental and Stress related illness and Suicide. Supporters include the Medical Advisory Service, Financial Ombudsman Outreach, Royal College of Nursing & many more.

Mental illness takes many forms from depression and anxiety to neurosis, psychosis, paranoia, bi polar disorder, schizophrenia and personality disorder.  Alarmingly 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a single year.

Only 1 in 10 prisoners has no mental disorder.  Women are more likely to be treated for mental health problems although British men are three times as likely to die by suicide than British women.  And about 10% of children have a mental health problem at any one time.  It stands to reason, someone you know will be a sufferer.

My Story

Throughout my so far short life, i have came across countless amounts of people all suffering with different forms of mental illness, and for each person i have come to meet, i have felt a deep sense of empathy and sympathy. This event not only allows me to show my support for the CLASP charity, and to demonstrate my support for those with mental illness, but also allows me to raise vital funds for those who desperately need it. I welcome all kinds of backing in this event, whether it is donating as little as a £1 or less, or sharing on my social network updates, it all helps to make a big difference! I know i can count on you!
