Story

My dad was diagnosed with a rare form of Sinus Cancer in late December 2018. This came as a massive shock to us all. The Cancer was at a stage four and had eaten away his cheek bone, it also was dangerously close to his brain (1mm) and was affecting his eye. Thankfully the surgeon said there was a chance of survival, dad being dad said “yeah I’ll give it a go”, the consultant said without surgery dad wouldn’t live longer than 3 months. With that the operation to remove the tumour took place, 13 hrs of surgery later it was removed, unfortunately this was along with dads cheekbone, Pallet and his eye. The next day the plan was to take bone from the shoulder and rebuild dads face over another 12 hrs in theatre. Unfortunately dad suffered a heart attack and we had the call to go to the hospital and say our goodbyes as dad wouldn’t survive. Some how dad managed to fight and got well enough to have an operation to rebuild his face with muscle from his back instead of the bone. Phew. So dad got through the 2nd Operation, he was finally on the mend, obviously still very poorly but he was still with us which is the main thing. Dad then had a set back, he had a brain fluid leak and contracted Meningitis, luckily the awesome people at the Nuero ICU Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital caught it early and treated dad straight away. In total dad was in Neuro ICU for 12 weeks, he was then moved to the Neuro ward and then finally to the Blenheim Head & Neck ward at the Churchill Hospital. Dad is currently awaiting his radiotherapy to start and we’re hopeful dad will get through this and go on to lead a normal life like he once did. Below is a brief description of what the good people at Macmillan do, PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE dig deep and donate to a great cause....
