Running for Faythe

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2019 · 24 March 2019 ·
One Friday morning, I took my pregnant wife Cassie to the hospital as she had a little bit of bleeding. She was 23 weeks plus 5. After a quick examination, we were told that her cervix had began to open and her membrane had dropped. She was in the early stages of labour. After more examinations and scans, we were told that our baby was on their way, 16 weeks too early. There was nothing they could do to stop the process all we could do was wait and hope for the best. With an overload of information and what to expect, we were told that as this stage of gestation, the odds of survival were not in our favour.
At 2am on the Sunday morning, after an exhausting and emotional labour, Cassie gave birth to a gorgeous little baby girl at 24 weeks weighing 1lb 4oz. Faythe Elizebeth Samantha Arnell came out breathing but needed a lot of support as soon as she was delivered. The doctors worked hard to stabilise our little princess and done an amazing job. Faythe was stabilised and rushed to the neonatal unit where our warrior was fighting for her life and fight she did.
Over the next two days, the doctors and nurses watched her endlessly, giving her the best care to see her through and do everything they could do to support her. Unfortunately, on the Tuesday afternoon we were told she suffered a major bleed on both sides of her brain. We were now faced with a very difficult and impossible decision. We could let the doctors carry on treating her or take Faythe off of the ventilator that was helping her to breathe. With a bleed the size it was, keeping her alive would have resulted in the loss of her sight, hearing, movement, thinking and everything else. So we made the very very very hard and difficult decision to take Faythe off of the ventilator and make her as comfortable as possible.
On Tuesday evening, at 6.33, in mine and Cassie’s arms, Faythe took her final breaths and fell asleep.
Rest in peace little baby girl. Mummy and daddy love you with all our hearts and are eternally grateful we got to spend those precious moments with you. We will never forgot the joy you have brought us, you are loved by so many people and you have touched the hearts of so many more. Sleep tight little princess ❤️❤️❤️
