Story
My name is Dalton Boisseau and over the course of nine years, I’ve been in and out of hospitals and undergone five surgeries to remove the benign tumors that have grown in various places throughout my body, ranging from my nose to my knee. Because of all this time traveling to and from doctors' offices, hospitals, and recovering, I have missed north of 100 days of school. In doing so I have also missed out on a lot of information. Now that I am well, I am aiming to make a difference.
Originally developed in 2018, the Back(Pack) to School initiative at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) seeks to provide our most vulnerable pediatric in-patient and out-patient population with a new backpack and school supplies to help them transition back to school and normalize their experience during an uncertain time.
Given recent times it has become a normality of life to miss time in school. Many of us are fortunate enough to have access to resources that aid us in our daily lives. There is a large portion of Americans that aren’t as fortunate. That is why I am hoping to give back. In doing all of this, my hope is that kids will be able to stay connected to their everyday lives while undergoing treatment.
